WhiteStar's
OrthoStar® Orthoquad Database
consists of aerial photographic quarter quadrangles each covering approximately
15 square miles at a resolution of approximately one meter. Uniform scale
and projection make these images ideal for base maps and for revising
and interpreting vector cartographic features. OrthoStar® is compatible
with WhiteStar 1:24,000 Texas and Public Land Survey data.

Data
Source
WhiteStar's OrthoStar® Database is compiled from USGS Digital Quarter
Quadrangle Coverage (DOQQ) and other sources. The orthoquads are based
on 1996-2003 vintage aerial photography flown at one meter resolution.
The OrthoStar® database is constantly updated as new imagery becomes
available.
Enhancement
WhiteStar offers images in MrSID® format using Lizardtech image compression
technology. This process can reduce file size by 20:1 from the original
GeoTIFF format, creating more manageable files without sacrificing image
quality. The orthoquads have been tonally balanced to improve tiling and
mosaicing results. Other services include compiling imagery for custom
areas of interest (such as corridors), tiling for seamless coverage, and
reprojection into user-specified coordinate systems.
Content
DOQQ imagery is delivered as geo-referenced raster images with uniform
scale, map projection, and associated coordinate system. Orthoquads are
generally Black and White, but Color Infra-Red OrthoQuads are available
for Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and West Virginia.

Coverage
Nationwide coverage, available by quarter-7.5' quadrangle or area of interest.
Immediate availability with rapid turnaround for reasonable cost makes
OrthoStar® ideal for rapid data acquisition and large project areas.
Application
Land and parcel mapping, oil and gas exploration, pipeline mapping, telecommunications,
engineering, building and development, agriculture, forestry, transportation
and other government functions. Because orthoquads have the spatial properties
of a map and the information content of an aerial photo, they are particularly
useful as a basemap and ground truth for overlying GIS layers.
Orthophotography
used for industrial planning,
oil and gas exploration, and wetlands management.
